THE TIBETAN YOGA OF MOVEMENT: YANTRA YOGA FOR BEGINNER

Yantra Yoga or the Yoga of Movement is an ancient system of Tibetan yoga based on the text “The Union of the Sun and the Moon”, written in the 8th century by the master and translator Vairocana.  Chogyal Namkhai Norbu wrote a detailed commentary on the root text and started to transmit this teaching in the West at the beginning of the seventies.

Yantra Yoga is a fundamental method to integrate the profound essence of the Dzogchen Teaching in the three doors (body, voice and mind) of the practitioner.  Through positions and movements combined with breathing one’s energy is coordinated and harmonized, so as to let the mind find the authentic balance and relaxation which is the basis for getting into contemplation.

John Renshaw is a qualified Yantra Yoga Instructor, who has studied under Chogyal Namkhai Norbu and been teaching Yantra Yoga for over 18 years.  John is also trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and runs a London practice.

Dates: Saturday, February 18th & Sunday, February 19th @ Pop Up Yoga

(max participants :16)

What is Budokon you ask??

Budokon is a mind and body art form inspired by the ancient traditions of Yoga, Martial Arts, Zen Meditation and the study of animal movement.  Budokon* (*bu-do-kon) translates directly in Japanese as (*Bu*) warrior, (*D0*) way, (*Kon*) spirit or “way of the spirit warrior”.

In this end of the year workshop you will explore Budokon, yoga asana and mixed martial arts techniques in further detail, focusing on cultivating body awareness and transitions between postures.  As much of a yoga practice is spent moving from one asana to another, your focus in the workshop will instead be on the in-between stages: entering and existing in a posture with so much mindfulness and precision that the technique becomes the transition itself.  Alignment, intention, power and grace are necessary to move with fluidity both on the yoga mat and off in your daily life.  Through slow experimentation and informal playing with the art of transition, discover the beauty of being fully present in your journey.

This workshop is suitable for any student seeking a deeper understanding of their practice and the art of transitional movement.  All levels of experience are welcome.

Sensei Ryan Carldon – Miah, Directof of Budokon MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) UK, has been studying Martial Arts for over 20 years, and yoga for over 6 years.  He is a Budokon Purple Belt Certified Teacher and Yoga Instructor.

Sensei Kimberly Hu, Director of Budokon Yoga UK, has been practicing yoga since 1998 and has over 10 years of Vinyasa Flow Yoga teaching experience in New York City and London.  She is a Budokon Red Belt Certified Teacher and Yoga Instructor.

OCTOBER 2011  WORKSHOPS

TRANSITION WITH GRACE & ALIGNMENT AND EXPAND YOGA WORKSHOP

Come join Alexa Kho on the 22nd of October from 3:00pm – 6:00pm for a yoga workshop that focuses on the Anusara Yoga Universal Principals of Alignment!

Within this three hour Yoga Workshop, Alexa will be transitioning you deep into the Anusara Yoga Universal Principals of Alignment to then expand and uplift your spirits to their highest potential!  When  we experience transitions off the mat we yearn for stability, yet freedom, however this is not always an easy balance to master.  When we work with a set of principles that can guide us and help us through these changes we feel more stable and we feel more free.  This is where the Universal Principles of Alignment come into the transitions of your yoga practice.  By applying the Principles to your asanas you will notice a positive shift and realignment in your practice that will lead you to a deep expansion in your body, mind and your spirit!

With over five years of dedicated Yoga practice, Alexa Kho steps onto the mat with grace, energy and enthusiasm.  Achieving four grade through the Royal Academy of Ballet and Dance from the age of six, she has always had a passion for movement and expression.  Her first experience of Yoga Teacher training took place in India during February 2008 in the deeply grounding style of Sivananda Yoga, and she has not looked back since.  The past three years has seen her develop her yoga teaching style to a higher level by focusing on deep alignment principles where she has undertaken extensive training with various International Anusara Yoga teachers such as John Friend, Sianna Sherman, Martin Kirk, Ross Rayburn, Patrick Creelman, Bridget-Woods Kramer and Zhenja La Rosa.   The love of her journey of Yoga has ultimately changed and expanded the way that she views the mind and body, in every soul that she meets.

Alexa welcomes newcomers to the practice and more advanced practitioners to join her for this special Yoga Workshop.

Time & Place – October 22, 2011 @ 3:00 – 6:00pm – Pop Up Yoga 199 Upper Street, Islington.

MARCH 2011 WORKSHOPS

YOGA FOR CYCLISTS: 3.00 – 4.30pm, 19th March 2011

While the rhythmic and repetitive motion of cycling can be deeply meditative, the downside of this action is that the continuous cylces of repetitive motion tax one set of muscles while under-utlizing the rest. So, for example – cyclists tend to have strong quads and glutes, but their hip flexors are tight and weak. By crouching towards their handlebars, cyclists can also be prone to rounded shoulders and back. Over time and distance, these can all create muscular imbalances that can lead to misalignment and injury.

But it’s not all bad news! Through dedicated yoga postures you can stretch and strengthen any problem areas and also gain a greater awareness of any niggles and injuries.

At this 90 minute workshop, you’ll learn poses to practice at home, which will stretch and lengthen commonly over-used and over-developed muscles and strengthen muscles which will improve postural alignment and help avoid injury.

All are welcome, but places are limited. So booking is essential.

When: 3.00-4.30pm on Saturday 19th March 2011

Teacher: “Guest Teacher” – Sally Lovett

Cost: £15

Book: Email sally@stretchingthecity.com to book your place.
